How Does A Maryland DUI Lawyer Sleep At Night?

Being a Maryland DUI lawyer is quite often a very difficult job to perform. Perhaps most lawyers do not philosophise as much as myself but in a job like mine it can be hard not to ponder the fact that I am frequently in a position where I am defending people who are, a lot of the time, quite possibly guilty. The behaviour of some offenders can put others in danger, and in some cases has caused injury or even death. But as a Maryland DUI lawyer, I let myself sleep soundly at night because I know, that despite these things, I believe in justice. And believing in justice also means believing in a justice system where everyone is entitled to fair representation in court, and everyone is (regardless of the offence committed), to be considered innocent until they are proven guilty. These are the foundations upon which our laws have been built over many, many years. Unfortunately there are still lots of people who think that anyone accused of drunken driving is scum, and should be locked up until the end of their days, but I don't see things like this. If you were accused of a crime, regardless of it's nature you would expect to be treated fairly and you would expect a jury to reach a verdict based on fact, not on the nature on the crime itself. We should never judge people by the views of the public and we should never speculate on the guilt of a defendant until that guilt has been proven beyond reasonable doubt in a court of law.

I have to admit that before I became a Maryland DUI lawyer, I did not feel the same way. Years ago when I was still a fairly young child, I remember that my parents were once involved in a car accident and the other party was a drunken driver. Fortunately, Luckily we were all wearing our seat belts and no one was too seriously injured, but my father did hurt his back, which caused him problems for quite a few years after the accident. Because of this, when I got older I even joined the 'Students Against Drunken Driving' group, and I remember writing letters to my congressman requesting that their be tougher punishments for DUI Offenders. It may seem odd in this case (and I would never have believed it myself), that I would become Maryland DUI lawyer. In fact I would have probably told you that you were completely mad.

Although it wasn't the job I had planned as a child I do not regret my career choice. Just because I am a Maryland DUI lawyer doesn't mean that I condone drunken driving, and it certainly doesn't mean that I am happy for people to drink and drive. A Maryland DUI lawyer is simply criminal defense attorney in a specialised field. There are of course hundreds of fields that lawyers practice in and mine just happens to be DUI. You see the whole point of our justice system is that it's based on the belief that every coin has two sides and as any other attorney, I ensure sure that my clients are represented in such a way that their side of the story is to the jury. Of course my other job is to ensure that my clients know all of their legal rights (and obligations) when facing the serious accusation of driving under the influence of alcohol. I therefore see that my job as a Maryland DUI lawyer is part of the process, which is just as important as that of a judge or prosecutor because without all of us, there could never be a fair trial.
